A SHOP owner has grand designs for her new business.
Lorraine Corrigan, of The Frock Exchange, Saville Street, Malton, has already turned heads and attracted a lot of interest in her used designer clothing since she opened.

“It is an agency where you can buy or sell labels or designer wear – things you might not have worn a lot of or you are bored with,” she said. “And it is a great opportunity to turn them into cash.”

The idea behind The Frock Exchange is simple.

Ladies are invited to make an appointment so Lorraine can look at any clothing and accessories they no longer want.

A price is negotiated for any items she believes will sell and they are then put on display at the shop for six weeks after which the owner comes to collect the cash from any sales. Any unsold items are returned to the owner or sent to a local charity shop.

Her clothing includes such designers as Gucci, Fendi, Christian Dior, Karen Millen and Sarah Coggles, among others. Shoes, handbags, jewellery and accessories – all priced reasonably – are also on offer.

Lorraine, of Scagglethorpe, said: “Stock is literally coming in every day so there’s always something new – something that you can wear for day, something you can wear at night, something for Christmas, weddings, a ball and a party.”

And, even though she has been open for a short time, there is a real buzz around The Frock Exchange, she added.

“I’m absolutely loving it. It feels like I have been here all the time. It’s just fun. What is really exciting me is I have had college students coming in with mothers, my friends and family coming, the racing brigade, all ages and backgrounds really. I’ve been told there’s nothing else like The Frock Exchange around Ryedale.”

The Frock Exchange is open Tuesdays to Saturdays and will be opening late in December.
