A SUPPORT group is to be set up to oversee and monitor a public open space in Pickering.
The Friends of Vivis Park will be up and running as soon as the land has been legally transferred from housing developer Persimmon to Ryedale Council.
The transfer has been been delayed for three years and during that time neighbouring residents h
ave complained that it became an overgrown, neglected and unusable eyesore.
Following a public meeting called by Cllr Natalie Warriner, nine residents volunteered to form the basis of a Friends group to work in partnership with Ryedale Council and Pickering Town Council.
Cllr Warriner said residents at the meeting listed a number of things they would like to happen – the grass cut short to allow litter clearing and, amid concern about dog mess, a large litter bin placed at the entrance to the park and two dog waste bins strategically placed elsewhere on the site.
They said hedges needed trimming and there was concern about the crab apple trees close to Aspen Court.
In her report to the town council Cllr Warriner said: "The general consensus was that the area be as is, to encourage wildlife with the addition of the aforementioned actions to enable full use by local children."
