YORK CID are appealing for witnesses and information following a robbery at the Coral bookmakers in Beckfield Lane, York.
It happened at about 12.15pm today (Wednesday 20 August 08) when a man holding what appeared to be a handgun approached the counter of the otherwise empty bookmakers.

The man threatened and demanded cash from a male member of staff before making off from the premises with an amount of money in the direction of Ostman Road and Viking Road.

While uninjured, the member of staff was deeply shocked by the incident and he required treatment from paramedics.

Police investigations begun immediately and efforts, with assistance of Firearms Support Unit officers, are ongoing to trace the suspect.

The man was described as white, "skinny" build and about 5ft 8in tall. He was wearing a grey-coloured hoodie top that was covering his face and black tracksuit bottoms.

Witnesses or anyone with information that could trace the suspect or help the investigation should contact York CID as soon as possible on 0845 60 60 24 7.

Information can also be passed onto Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
