PRIDE in Pickering has won top level support – from the Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber.
Town Cllr William Oxley wrote to Rosie Winterton's office to tell her about the campaign and about the competition being run in local schools to design a suitable logo for it. He was thrilled she responded to his letter.
Here's what he wrote:
P
ickering Town Council is launching a "Pride in Pickering" campaign at the Town meeting on the 7th May. Consultation on key issues have already taken place and an outline improvement plan developed.
A competition has been run in local schools to design a logo for the campaign and the Malton and Pickering Mercury has committed to be an ongoing press partner reporting aspects of the campaign in every issue.
The campaign is not just about physical improvements but also about changing attitudes in the community and encouraging all local residents to take pride in their town.
The children whose entries have won the logo competition will be presented with their prizes at the Town Meeting on the 7th and I'm sure would appreciate some words of encouragement from the Minister for the Region. I appreciate this is very short notice but wonder if a message of support would be possible? Regards William Oxley Pickering Town Council
Ms Winterton's response came just as the town meeting was drawing to a close last week and Cllr Oxley was delighted, saying he was impressed by the speed and content of the response.
The message read:
"Congratulations to the winners (of the Logo competition). Pleasing to see young people involved in their communities. Across Yorkshire and the Humberside it is good to see young people being valued and their achievements recognised and celebrated."
