Following a procession from the school involving all 50 pupils and children from Fylingdales pre-school, the annual cermony saw Iona Smith crowned Queen.

The celebrations at Dock End incorporated sword and pole dancers and a new modern dance designed by the teachers.

Reception pupils also performed as the crowd clapped in time to the music. Headteacher Lisa Jones was pleased with the number of people who turned out to watch despite the cloudy conditions and praised all the pupils for their efforts in the limited time they had to prepare.

Mrs Jones said: "Its amazing how every year we get such a crowd.

"The children and teachers have done such a fantastic job because they have had such a short space of time to put it together.

"SATS exams get in the way and they don't get much time to practice.

"Every single member of the school takes part regardless of age or ability."

Mrs Jones thanked the police for leading the procession and also had a special mention for ironsmith James Godbold of The Forge in Gromont.

The school had misplaced the top of their maypole prior to the ceremony but Mr Godbold came to the rescue and manufactured a new pole top in one night, without charge.

The school would also like to thank the Bay Hotel for the use of electricity and Mr Robson for providing the music.
